I am a Promise
I am a Promise is a childrens choir. As in most childrens choirs, there is much noisy enthusiasm, giggling and happy music. However, there is one major difference between this choir and other childrens groups. The members of I am a Promise are all deaf.
The majority of the children, ages 7 to 12, have losses in the severe and profound range. I am a Promise is a non-selective group; any hearing impaired child who wishes to sing may join.
The children of I am a Promise have been featured on P.M. Magazine and several news and morning talk shows. Since 1980, they have performed for conventions, retirement homes, service organizations, churches, schools and community home days all over Ohio. They sang at the International Symposium for Music, Medicine and Therapy for the Handicapped in New York; were featured at workshops by that organization in both Utah and Denmark; performed for the A.G. Bell Convention in Chicago, for the National Orff Convention in Columbus, Ohio and for the Music Educators Convention, also in Columbus.
I am a Promise is a living example of the belief that deaf children need not be handicapped children with limited futures. There is nothing they cannot accomplish if they desire it enough.
